Screen Translator – Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Screen Translator ("the App") is a floating overlay app that captures on-screen text via OCR and translates it. This policy explains what data is processed and how.

2. Data We Process

Screen text (OCR output): When you tap the translation bubble, the App captures a screenshot, extracts visible text using the on-device Google ML Kit OCR library, and sends that text only to Google's free translation service for translation. Screenshots are never stored or transmitted.
Language preference: Your chosen target language is stored locally on your device only.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

No user accounts or registration.
No device identifiers, advertising IDs, or analytics.
No location data.
No images or screenshots are ever uploaded to any server.

4. Third-Party Services

The App sends extracted text to Google's translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com) to perform translation. This data transfer is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Permissions Explained

Permission	Reason
SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW	Display the floating translation bubble over other apps
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION	Capture the screen content for OCR when the bubble is tapped
INTERNET	Send extracted text to Google Translate
POST_NOTIFICATIONS	Show the persistent foreground-service notification required by Android

6. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes.
